San Francisco – February 9, 2006 - Academy Award nominated actress Elisabeth Shue and Creative Commons are hosting a very special screening and celebration of the newly Creative Commons licensed film “Teach” by director and producer Davis Guggenheim on Friday, February 17, 2006 at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center.  This event is in collaboration with the Teachers Documentary Project, a Los Angeles based organization.

In 1999, Guggenheim undertook an ambitious project documenting the challenging first year experiences of several public school teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Two films were the result: the Peabody Award winning "The First Year," which premiered on PBS, and "Teach." These films address the tremendous need for qualified teachers nationwide and aim to inspire a new generation of teachers. Through its license with Creative Commons “Teach,” which has become as a powerful tool for teacher recruitment, will vastly expand its outreach by becoming available for free on the internet for the first time.

Guggenheim was an executive producer for “Training Day” and directed the film “Gossip,” both features films for Warner Bros.  His television directing credits include episodes of “The Shield,” “Alias,” “24,” as well as the critically acclaimed programs “NYPD Blue,” “ER,” “Party of Five” and “Deadwood.”

The screening will be followed a cocktail reception. For inquiries, please contact Anne N. Marino, CC Development Director, at 415-946-3068 or anne AT creativecommons.org.
