Hi all, Just reporting back from our Nethui meetup on Tuesday night. We had a packed house of around 70 people. It was a great open discussion about the opportunities and challenges of open access and open licensing in the sector.
If you couldn’t make it, I made a passable recording. You can find it here:
http://archive.org/details/CcanzOpenCultureAndHeritageMeeting A big thanks to Courtney Johnston, Mark Crookston, Victoria Leachman and Brenda Leeuwenberg for volunteering their time.
Some news to come out of the session: Page 19 of Te Papa’s new Statement of Intent contains the following paragraph: “Implementing an Open Access Licensing framework that will enable online visitors to download high quality, high resolution digital images free of charge to use in ways meaningful to them (e.g. to support research, as part of a blog etc).
Te Papa will make 10,000 high resolution images available under “no known copyright“ or Creative Commons licences and develop ways to track and measure their use.” Te Papa are not directed to adopt NZGOAL, so this really is a great sign of CC and OA becoming more prominent in the sector. Congratulations to Victoria Leachman and the rest of the folks at Te Papa for making this happen.
Best wishes, Matt Matt McGregor Creative Commons
