Yes, great news.  The one-year timeframe and the budgetary restriction are a little ‘half-way house’ but it still sends an important signal.

 

Given what’s going on around the world (including Australian funding bodies) these things must be under discussion inside our own government and funding agencies…anyone have any inside information or heard any rumours?

Hi all,

 

The White House have responded to last year’s Open Access petition. From John Holdren, Director of the Science and Technology policy:

 

“I have issued a memorandum today (.pdf) to Federal agencies that directs those with more than $100 million in research and development expenditures to develop plans to make the results of federally-funded research publically available free of charge within 12 months after original publication.”
