CC's response to ASCAP's claims: http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/22643 A big shout out to those who donated to the CC Catalyst grant programs as well as or instead of the ASCAP's funding campaign.

On another note, this Australian interview on moral rights (with some coverage of Viacom vs YouTube) is worth a listen (via Creative Freedom Foundation) http://www.abc.net.au/rn/lawreport/stories/2010/2932924.htm

Kia ora koutou

This came through the NZ Open Source Society email list. It is crucial
that we engage APRA in a constructive dialogue about how CC can
benefit their members, before they start throwing around ASCAP-style
FUD.

i just got this via my comrades at creative commons.

ASCAP raising money to fight Free Culture
http://www.boingboing.net/2010/06/23/ascap-raising-money.html

1) if anyone here can fwd that to any mailing list of RIANZ members...
as if i needed another reason not to join a collecting society...

2) will we see the same flawed "logic" used to argue that GNU is
working to undermine the rights of M$? it may just matter of time,
although the argument won't come directly from M$, but will come from
one of their agents.
