The CC 2.0 licenses released over a year ago offer some flexibility in requesting specific attribution or waiving attribution. See http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/4216
There's also a draft of a "wiki" license (not really specific to wikis at all) with lots of discussion on cc-licenses in March and April, starting at about https://lists.ibiblio.org/sympa/arc/cc-licenses/2005-March/thread.html#2015
A future version of CC licenses may include something like the attribution tweak contained in the "wiki" which basically allows attribution to be required for a publisher rather than for authors.
There is some desire to specify attribution required for a work in work metadata, something like
...
<cc:Work about="">
<cc:license rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/"/>
<cc:attribution ... >
...
</cc:attribution>
</cc:Work>
...
cc:attribution is just a placeholder for something that should be able to express:
- attribution is waived
- attribution must include URL x
- attribution must include the name of entity y
Any ideas, sketches, pointers to similar usage, etc?
One problem or opportunity is that all of the above expressions apart from 'waived' may already be present in work metadata, perhaps as dc:creator or dc:publisher. I wonder if there's any (non confusing) way these can be leveraged?
