The html has been updated to reflect the changes made since d4 was published. All of the changes have been previously noted on this mailing list, except for the few additional changes listed below and a few small changes to be noted in a separate thread shortly.

http://staging.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode
http://staging.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode
http://staging.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/legalcode
http://staging.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/legalcode

Other changes:

- Edited Section 2(a)(5) to better emphasize that only those ETMs that restrict the exercise of the licensed rights are prohibited. It now reads: "You may not offer or impose any additional or different terms or conditions on, or apply any Effective Technological Measures to, the Licensed Material if doing so restricts exercise of the Licensed Rights by any such recipient."

- Added language in Section 2(a) clarifying that the license permits sharing of the licensed material in whole or in part, even in the ND licenses. In light of this change, we removed the reference to excerpts in the lead-in to Section 3(a).

- Removed a few extraneous references to Adapted Material throughout the license (e.g., in Section 3(a)(2)) so that the legal code is consistent in its use of the terms Licensed Material and Adapted Material.

- Edited Section 8(a) for clarity. It now reads: "For the avoidance of doubt, this Public License does not, and shall not be interpreted to, reduce, limit, restrict, or impose conditions on any use of the Licensed Material that could lawfully be made without permission under this Public License."

We received input from an affiliate team off-list, which has sparked us to make a few minor edits to the license. Those changes will be reflected in the html versions soon, but we also wanted to report about them on-list.

The first change is to edit the phrase "Your Adapter's License" to "the Adapter's License You apply." There are four places in the license where this phrase is used. The change is designed to avoid any interpretation that "Your Adapter's License" is somehow different from the "Adapter's License" as defined.

The second change is to add "to the extent possible" to Section 5(c), so that it is consistent with Sections 5(a-b).

Other suggestions relating to Section 2(a)(5) will be addressed in a separate thread on that particular issue.

Sarah
