This year’s program is entitled "Data Stewardship for Scientific Discovery and Innovation

On behalf of Professors Barend Mons and Ton Raap we cordially invite you to contribute your expertise on the cutting edge of open policies in copyright licensing and the public domain for "data, science, culture, and government”.   Our hope is that you can help the students to become more comfortable with taking an active role in licensing their digital creations and understand the legal issues surrounding data integration.

Each year, the LERU sponsors a one-week summer program where 50 graduate students from 21 European Universities are brought together for a special topics course and social and cultural experiences. The 2016 Summer School will be hosted by Leiden University with its Medicine Faculty, i.e. the Leiden University Medical Center, July 10-15.

The charming city of Leiden, with its rich scientific history, is the perfect backdrop for the LERU Summer School. Leiden University and LUMC have a leadership role in data science:

and are a strong drivers of the ‘FAIR’ data initiative, whose principles help to ensure that data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable by both humans and computers: http://www.dtls.nl/fair-data/

The scope of the Summer School is multidisciplinary and covers data-intensive sciences like biomedicine and astrophysics as well as Big Data issues in the humanities, law, economics and publishing.

If you are available and willing to contribute to the LERU Summer School, please confirm your participation by replying directly to Mascha Jansen, Cced here:

I would then contact you in March to discuss logistics, course content and your specific contribution to the Summer School.

In the mean time, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
