Hi,

if you are interested in this, please get in touch with Paul!
We think this can be relevant for different strands of activities, such as library, gov't and education  - so if you have an interest in any of these, you might be willing to join the committee!

best
Gwen & John

Hi affiliates:

You may have heard from regional coordinators that I've been leading a new initiative at CC HQ to develop a CC Certificate.

The need for this emerged out of the work we've been doing on the large US Department of Labor TAACCCT initiative where it became apparent that government grant managers needed to be skilled up so they could support grantees around the Creative Commons licensing requirement of the grant. And as we advocated across other government departments for them to also include CC licensing requirements in their grants there was a growing request that we provide training and professional development for government staff.

We then had a follow-on need emerge around the need for professional development for librarians around Creative Commons.

This led us to devise a plan to create a formal CC certificate which will include both a modular set of learning materials that can be used independently for informal learning, and a formal, structured and facilitated certificate the can be taken for official certification. The plan is to develop this certificate in such a way as to have customized versions for librarians, gov't, educators, etc.

We recently received some good news with funding for this initiative coming through from two sources  - the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Institute for Museum and Library Services.

With funding in place we're now starting to move forward with actual development plans.

I thought I'd reach out to all affiliates and invite expressions of interest in being on a committee to advise on and provide input on this Certificate. I know many of you have developed your own resources to educate people in your region on CC and we obviously want to reuse as much of that work as possible.

If you would like to be on a committee to help shape the design and development of a CC Certificate please let me know.
