Funny you should say that. The reason I delurked to comment on the
education license is that I'm part of a group already in the first stage
of doing just what you suggest. We're called the Free Curricula
Foundation, and the plan is to build the educational equivalent of
SourceForge. Look for us soon (net yet, though, I'm afraid) on
<http://www.freecurricula.org>.
<< It would have the facility to link people together across particular
themes (kind of like a Friendster for curriculum developers) and really
develop our ability to collectively wade through and filter the mass of
open content that is being made available into practical, current
information bytes using blogs, wikis and collaborative project
management similar to that used by projects such as www.openoffice.org >>
We're looking to support a model where one person has the final say on what makes it into the document and what does not, although we also want to support a multiple committer model if there's interest.
<< You'll notice that openoffice.org has opened up their *entire*
development process - including marketing - to the international public,
and does a similar thing to what you suggested by having contact nodes
in each region responsible for marketing and press liaison. >>
I didn't know that -- that's actually really interesting! I'm glad you mention the international aspect, as FCF is being designed to cater to all different countries and to have multiple language support.
<< I'd be very willing to set up a collaborative space for cc education
people to start developing these materials - if it is generally agreed
that it's a good idea and if people are willing to comment on how it
should look. >>
Would you be willing to join our effort instead? We'd love to have you!
