Hi Chris,

Accordance can do the kind of search you are after. In order to find  cognate accusatives it would require syntax information (because it would need to know the relationship of the nouns to the verb).  But this information is only available for certain OT books at this stage and Zech isn't one of them. It can, however find all the verses in Zech that have a noun and a finite verb that use the same root. You will need to weed through these for those that are actually cognate accusatives. It finds 17 such verses:

1:2, 1:14, 1:15, 3:7, 5:11, 6:12, 7:9, 7:14, 8:2, 8:16, 10:5, 11:9, 11:13, 12:10, 13:6, 14:12, 14:16

Dear Colleagues,

Please help. I am writing a thesis on Zechariah, and I need to locate every time a verb (any verb) is used with its cognate accusative.

I have Logos 4 and BibleWorks 7 on my Windows 7 laptop, but these programs seem unable to find instances where a lexical root is repeated in the same verse (or within a range of, say, 20 words).

Apparently, Accordance is able to perform this kind of search, but I do not have any access to a computer with Accordance here in Argentina.

Could someone please help me find all instances of cognate accusatives in Zechariah either through

1.) Running a search for root agreement on Accordance and sending me the results, or

2.) Telling me how to search Logos 4 or BibleWorks 7 for every construction in the Hebrew morphological texts where an unspecified verbal stem ??? is used with the same stem as a noun ???, where ??? can be any stem.

Please note that I have posted this question in the past on BibleWorks and Logos forums, but have received no response other than a single message that such a search does not seem possible in BibleWorks.

My reading of the Accordance site says that their software is capable of searching for "lexical root agreement." So again, if anyone can perform this search in Accordance and send me the results, I would be grateful beyond words.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give.

Sincerely,

Chris Lovelace

PS - Examples of the sort of cognate repetition I am looking for occur in Zechariah 1:2, 1:14, 1:15, and 8:2 using the roots קצף, קנא. I need to know if there are any other occurrences of cognate repetition with other roots in Zechariah. Again, thank you.
