Could the Hiph'il participle "badal" be translated "separate from," or "divide from"?

(In other words, is the
preposition "from" implied in the word?)

A quick electronic search shows that MBDYL (hiphil participle of BDL) is found only once, in Genesis 1:6, followed by BYN “between”, in a use as a noun, as a separator between two other objects.
