Those Heths and other gutturals do not take a Dagesh forte.

The Masoretes who had sharp ears, simply did not hear doubling
in these letters.

That's precisely the point. It's 'virtual' doubling. Phonetically there is no
doubling, but in terms of the grammatical rules the Masoretes seem to have
been following, there does seem to be virtual doubling going on.
