The root TKP essentially means 'overcome' or 'bend over'. In my humble opinion a Hebrew root can not have the evolved meaning of 'strong'. The root TKP is a variant of:
גב, גבה, גבב, עגב, גבב, אגף, גפף
הב, הבהב, אהב, הוה, חוה, חבב, חפף
כבה, כפה, כפף, כף
עקב, קבע, קפא, עקף
and in this sense it is also related to the root NQP, or הקיף 'went around'.
