- Subject: [b-hebrew] regarding Ba'al
- Date: Tue, 15 Sep 2009 23:50:55 -0700 (PDT)
Greetings Bill,
According to my work,
Ba'al is an extension of Ba'a with an added L.
Ba'ah literally means 'to enter into / probe" but in common usage it means
"to search"
see (Is21:12)(Jb30:24)
Ba'ah itself was transformed from Ba?ah (with an Aleph) meaning "to enter
into / come"
Quite literally Ba'ah (with Ayin) means "for the male to engage in sexual
intercourse"
see (Dt21:13;24:1)
but comes to mean husband, master, owner etc.
Ba'aL the pagan God is the "fornicator" of the earth responsible for the
rains that bring forth crops, a fertility god. The people engaged in sex
with religious prostitutes as a form of worship of ba'al.
P.S. as I said, this all results from my own very extensive research. it
will not find support on this list, but i hope it was helpful.

Greetings,
I was just wondering if it would be at all reasonable to hypothesize
that Ba'al and/or Bel were derived from an earlier 'Ba 'father'
+ 'L followed by the loss of the initial glottal stop.
Thanks very much in advance for any help anyone can give me with this.
