Many users of the Unicode/XML Westminster Leningrad Codex at
http://www.tanach.us/Tanach.xml
are unaware of some features. Have you tried these tools?
1. View web translations (i.e. RSV, NSRV) of the displayed text.
Through the "Page index" link in the upper left corner of the home page, view the "Links" page and set the default links. You can modify the list to connect to your preferred web sites. Watch out for differences in verse numbering.
2. Challenge yourself by reading a randomly selected verse from the Tanach, Torah, Psalms, Proverbs, or Ruth. Verses change daily.
Through the "Page index" link in the upper left corner of the home page, view the "RSS" page and set the URL http://www.tanach.us/RSS/RandomVerses.RSS.xml into your RSS feed reader.
3. Decode and display Michigan-Claremont expressions (standard on this list) in their Unicode text equivalents.
Through the "Supplements" link in the middle left corner of the home page, click the "Conversion" link. Your browser must have the (free!) Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed. The start-up page has a simple test example; click the "Convert to Unicode" button to run it.
4. View the text without the clutter of the header and footer.
Click on the book chapter:verse title immediately above the text. To return, click the book chapter:verse title immediately above the uncluttered text.
5. Get the Unicode names, hexadecimal values, and HTML constants for a text. Create web pages with Hebrew text without a Unicode editor.
Select the desired text, hold down the SHIFT key, and click the selected text. Practice makes perfect!
6. View the site without an internet connection.
Through the "Technical" link in the middle right corner of the home page, go to the "Off-line operation" section. About 30 Mbytes are required on your machine.
7. Place hypertext links to text references in documents.
Through the "Instructions" link in the middle right corner of the home page, go to the "Hypertext links ..." section.
Please advise (via the red "suggestions" link at the bottom center of the home page) if you encounter difficulties with these or other aspects of the site.
