To All:
A while back there was a discussion concerning the name "Dan". The question
was, is this such a unique name that only one person bore that name in
antiquity, and only one place was given that name? Or was the name common
enough that we should not be surprised if a few places had that name?
At the time, I took the position that it was a common enough name that we
should not be surprised if a few places bore that name.
Background to this verse: this is part of a list of trading countries with
Tyre. Judah and Israel have already been mentioned as providers mainly of
agricultural goods, in verse 17. Wouldn't the tribal area of Dan be
considered as an insignificant part of Israel? Yet here "Dan" is listed on
par with Greece as a source of manufactured goods.
So where is this "Dan"?
