That can't be a reason - the Anshei Knesset HaGedolah did not consider "baptism" required by Jewish law, as such. There were certain times, especially for women, that a person was required to immerse in a mikva, but it was not "baptism" in the non-Jewish sense.

Shoshanna

Regarding canonicity, Moore (in ABD) suggests a few reasons it was rejected: Judith was too liberated; Achior was an Ammonite; Achior was not baptized. The latter is considered most likely.

Er, could it be that Pere assumes Judith must be *originally*
written in Hebrew?

I don't think this is supposed to be the case, and certainly
a Hebrew original is not extant.

That could be one reason (as suggested by someone a bit
earlier) that it was left out of the canon (although we don't
know the exact criteria used to decide what went in and what
was left out).

Dear Pere,

I don't know of an online translation of Judith into Hebrew.
The two printed translations that I know of (I'm sure that
there are others) are by M.
Simon, in the second volume of the Hebrew Apocrypha edited by
A. Kahana from
1956 and that of Y.M. Grintz from 1957. But why read a
translation into Hebrew, and not into your own language?
