In Gen. 22:7, Isaac asks his father, "veayyeh hasseh le(olah", translated (in
this case by KJV) "but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?".

The Vulgate, however, translates "seh le(olah", as "victima holocausti". Why
is "seh" a "victim". I realize that "victim" here means "sacraficial
offering", but why not use a more specific word for "lamb", such as "agnus" -
especially considering the Christian understanding of this passage as being a
preconfiguration of the Crucifixion of THE lamb?

Might the translator (Jerome?) have understood the word "seh" to be a general
term for "sacraficial offering", rather than a name for a specific animal?

(Please excuse the cross-posting).

One issue perhaps is that "seh" is more generic than "lamb", for it can
also refer to young goats.
