Did you check the commentary of M.H. Pope, Song of Songs (Anchor Bible, 7c), New York 1977. He offers a 16-pages long bibliography of commentaries from before 1800, starting at 2nd-3rd centuries (including also Jewish commentaries), however, without indicating there (pp. 236-51) which approach is given. That he does in his introduction (pp. 112-32).
