Both words are quite common in Modern Hebrew, meaning "silence" and "thin"
(s.f.). In fact, the Israeli equivalent of the US Navy SEALS are nicknamed
"Anshei Haddemamah" - "the Men of Silence". And then there's always Simon
and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence"...
