hello friends,
ran a database on ani vs anoki in samuel-kings, controlling for every
grammatical variable. there does appear to be a grammatical
determination. as a first approximation, ani with finite verbs, anoki with
pred adjectives, and mixed with participles---to the extent they're
functioning as verbs or adjectives.
there are of course other factors, including main/subordinate clause, and
word order, etc. some exceptions appear to be consistently localized, and
may indicate sources (?)....
perhaps this work would be publishable before the end of term...
cheers
V
