The account of Deborah the prophetess, Jael and the trusting Sisera being
nailed by a woman has always been intriguing to me. The Song of Deborah
being the poetic version of this account in contrast to the prose account in
Judges 4. Deborah's song is a song of praise unto the Lord. It appears to me
that verses 4-5 of Judges 5 go back in time to reference and praise God's
deliverance of the Israelites in the Exodus, his leading them throught the
wilderness to the Promised Land.

"And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the
children of Israel before his death.
And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them: he
shined forth from mount Paran,
and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery
law..." (Deuteronomy 33:1-2)

As to what else may be gleaned from this text......hmmm, perhaps a man
should never trust a woman that says "trust me," .... or the Lord can use an
insignificant person to overcome a significant one. Or, more likely, that
Yahweh is the God of Israel and moves in powerful ways to protect his
people.

Best,

Christine Bass
