Gday Jon,

I was looking to buy an advanced hebrew grammar. I saw a relativley
new one and wondered what people thought about it. The authors are:
Christo H. Van Der Merwe (Editor),Jackie A. Naude (Editor),Jan H.
Kroeze (Editor) / Paperback / Sheffield Academic Press, Limited /
July 1998. Is this a good one? How does it compare to Gesenius or
Jouon? Which would people recommend?

The sheffield volume is a good reference grammar, but has not much for
explanations. Good to have around, but look at it first before
purchasing it, in case it is not what you are looking for. A good
advanced grammar is of course Waltke & O'Connor. This is the standard
advanced grammar.
If you want very advanced stuff on individual issues, then it is best
to look at articles and books. Some recent books that are discussed
sometimes on this list, and some others that aren't are listed below.
Others on the list may suggest some other stuff.
There are way too many articles to list, and many are not worth
reading unless you are after something fairly specific.
Happy reading!

Matthew Anstey
