too excited to keep this to myself, hope to confirm general results
before end of next week.
have been working intensively on tiberian accents for about a year, in
collaboration with elan dresher and bill idsardi. have pretty much
solved big problems, and the three of us are working on
computationally validating the results using prolog.
been following up idea that hebrew meter might be regulated by larger
prosodic domains that i've been working on, especially phonological
phrases. looks like that in fact this *is* the basis of poetic meter
as well: can state basic constraints in prosodic terms. turns out
preferred structures are identical to optimal prosodic structures,
independently motivated. also looks like can derive observations on
syntax, etc, in o'connor's framework, from prosodic analysis: very
nice if true.
the goal will be to have a working paper that can be submitted for
publication. will announce when posted on the web.
