Probably all of the characters you need are in Unicode and so
accessible from Unicode-based software like Word 97. But you still
need the Unicode font. (They are now discussing adding to Unicode
Ugaritic and Old Persian cuneiform, but for some reason not yet
Sumerian cuneiform, maybe it's just too complicated, so you will stick
to transliteration for now).
The SIL Encore font system allows you to set up your own fonts by
selecting from a set of characters which includes everything you need
for such transliteration and assigning them to whichever codes you
decide. There are four styles, of which two look like Times New Roman,
and the setup is actually very simple through a Windows interface.
Unfortunately this one is not free, but you can order it and get
further details from www.sil.org.

Dear colleagues,
Can anyone suggest a good font (looking like Times New Roman) with
all the necessary characters for Sumerian transliteration? Perhaps
there is a font that includes the characters for some Semitic
languages (like Accadian) as well.
Thank you for your attention,
