Hello, here are a few recent items of interest:

"Clear Channel Perfects the Art of Sounding Local"
http://www.stayfreemagazine.org/public/clearchannel.html
The Wall Street Journal reports on how radio giant Clear Channel
(owners of KISS-FM) fools listeners across the country into thinking
they are hearing a local broadcast.

"Schools crack down on illegal students"
http://www.cnn.com/2002/fyi/teachers.ednews/03/13/illegal.students.ap/index.html
I'm not sure which is more depressing: the fact that kids have to lie
to get a decent education. Or that school districts solve the problem
by hiring $200/hr private investigators to track their moves...

"Ad agencies to help drug makers find patients for clinical trials"
http://www.stayfreemagazine.org/public/ads_clinical.html
The Wall Street Journal reports that "advertising agencies are
increasingly working with large pharmaceuticals companies" in
developing drugs... Man, there are so many things wrong with this,
it's hard to know where to start. At least the aliens quoted in this
piece don't pretend this is about improving healthcare: "All we want
to do is speed up the process," one says. "What we want to try to do
is look at the molecule in the test tube as a brand." Another
ominously refers to "cradle-to-grave marketing."

...and just in case you haven't seen it: John Ashcroft sings!
