Summary: gdb unusable with multi-threaded apps with glibc and
                    strip
           Product: Codex
           Version: stable grimoire
          Platform: x86
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: P3
         Component: devel
        AssignedTo: sm-grimoire-bugs at lists.ibiblio.org
        ReportedBy: gsherwood at sourcemage.org

If strip is selected as an option gdb will not work with multi-thread apps.
With gdb 6.8, the error looks like:

Starting program: /usr/bin/midori
warning: Lowest section in /usr/lib/libicudata.so.41 is .hash at 000000b4
[New LWP 8979]
[LWP 8979 exited]
[New process 8975]
linux-nat.c:1152: internal-error: linux_nat_resume: Assertion `lp != NULL'
failed.
A problem internal to GDB has been detected,
further debugging may prove unreliable.

with gdb 6.7.1:
(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/bin/midori
warning: Lowest section in /usr/lib/libicudata.so.41 is .hash at 000000b4
[New LWP 21649]
[LWP 21649 exited]
[New process 21645]
ptrace: No such process.

This was when I found this closed gentoo bug:

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196031

Building glibc without strip selected will allow normal debugging. Not sure if
we have a method to only strip on lib as gentoo or glibc will have to build
with no stripping to work with gdb
