We had the transition of X11 core font installs to /usr/share/fonts/X11, well
some of them. Some upstream tarballs of fonts still installed to
/usr/lib/X11/fonts. In any case: The default built-in font path of xorg-server
does not match this transition. It still looks in /usr/lib/X11/fonts .

This is an issue at least when you run without xorg.conf (more and more common
these days, especially since this file is regarded less and less by Xorg) and
still have some apps using X11 core fonts, e.g. Motif apps, though the simplest
example may be xfontsel.

I fixed this in a series of commits in test grimoire, the first changing the
default font path prefix in xorg-server, the others fixing core fonts that
installed to the old location.

PS: I wonder if we'll get into trouble with not updating the download URLs of
these font spells when new Xorg is released. The Xorg release version is
embedded there, although the actual tarball does usually not change (judging
from the date it carries, at least). I wonder if old Xorg release URLs will
vanish at some time...
