I think I ran mysql_install_db as the mysql user, which is the same effect :)

We only handle package management. Our approach is the minimalistic one. We
don't start your database, because maybe you don't actually want a database
started, or you're going to import an exsting fileset (you could copy the mysql
files from another mysql). So as long as the spell installs successfully, it's
not our problem if the admin cannot figure out how to RTFM and start up the
database.
