Okay, here's my thoughts for implementing a solution.

Install a script /sbin/setkernelversion (or something)
You would call it by `setkernelversion <version-string>`
The script would create a file /etc/sorcery/local/LOCAL_KERNEL_VERSION (or
something)
Which would contain the kernel version you want
Then the get_kernel_version would check for the file and cat it for the version
and use that above everything else.

to remove the file simply `setkernelversion remove` (or something) to go back to
the default behaviour
