Eh? I must admit that I don't get that... will configure fail when the -m64 is 
I just checked on a SuSE Prescott box... gcc -m64 -m32 -o test test.c works, 
gcc -m32 -m64 -o test test.c does not.

Do you want the -m64 for checking if we are on 64 bits? We have the 
SMGL_COMPAT_ARCHS array for that...

What exactly is the issue... what would stop working if we drop -m64?
