[nafex] elec. vs. gas

Lawn tractors electricity is 12 volts.

A decent pump will draw 8 amps from it. (my best Shurflo did)

Hence, the pump 'consumes' 96 watts of power.

Say the pump is 80% efficient (I'm being generous here) so the actual 'Pumping Power' is 77 watts.

The other 19 watts are lost to heating.


1 HP = 746 watts


77 watts = 0.103 HP (my electric motor)


5 HP = 3730 watts    (my gas motor)


This is a 'simplified model'. Accuracy +/- 25%
