Whenever I find a half-eaten tomato on the vine, I immediately suspect a groundhog (woodchuck). -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn.

Subject: [NAFEX] critters stealing tomatoes
This is slightly off topic, but some critter is stealing my tomatoes as they
They are taken clean off the vine, no damage to the vines (caged). One large
nice tomato was half-eaten on the vine but the rest are just gone-no
leftovers on the ground or anything. This is a small garden, the losses
right now are 100%, so it's not a matter of sharing a few, etc.
I have a 2' high fence to keep rabbits out, but total fencing is not an
option. Adjacent green beans, cucumbers, hot peppers are untouched.
I have heard raccoons are noted for this; are opossums?
Has anyone had luck with liquid fence or other spray-on repellents for this
