our ashmeads bore sparesly for its first four years of bearing but this year it is perfectly cropped, not too much not too little, on standard. I have seen it go through 43 below with damage to one year old sprouts only although it did struggle for a month the next summer but recovered fully.

Sadly, Ashmead's Kernel seems not hardy for this area. Applesource says not
winter hardy and not much cropping here. One more year without crop when
everything else is cropping then this gets topworked.

This is quite surprizing, as Ashmead is hardy here in Quebec zone 4, where
we routinely endure lows around -30C and once in 5 years -35. I have not
noticed winter kill on it. It is not very productive but it's OK. And it
only matures weel on good seasons. Some not-so-good years, it's like if it
didn't get enough sun and heat to ripen to perfection, but even then, it is
still quite good.
