[NAFEX] Artisan Farming to Disappear by new ProposedRegulations?

I don't know about "the foodies" but I do know that MOST folks are unaware of what Congress is working on----until it is enacted into law. That is the purpose of this post on this forum: to allow you to know what the folks in Washington---- who brought us the Bailout---- are up to next!  There are many websites that have this info, but few folks care to keep track----hence the "silent majority" is outvoted----because they didn't know anything was happening.
The Carbon Tax Bill is slated to be voted on this Friday by the full House of Representatives. More taxes!

I have wondered about the foodies also.  I have a personal stake in small farmstead milk and cheese. Now I am well aware that some people do not care for their livestock and practice sufficient car (by my standards) in clean collection of milk.  But they hoot and holler about wanting raw milk.. (and come to my door wanting me to break the law and take on the liability and risk of selling to them)  don’t you think they would be out there lobbying for small scale production?
But the others shopping in Whole Paycheck .. they know food comes in packages in stores.  Dirt and farmers are not part of the picture.

Every year it seems, small farmers come under threat of extinction either by ruthless USDA regulation or by direct fire from congress. It seems that small farmers need a lobby to protect themselves from the so-called farm lobby that seems only to favor the big industrial guys. Too bad small farmers have to compete directly with Big AG. Where are all the foodies when you need them?

Hi, folks!

Many of you may not know that lawmakers now have a bill in committee in the US House of Representatives that proposes to Federally inspect all food for sale produced at the farm. A $500 registration fee up front is also proposed. If passed by the House, it COULD mean that artisan farming could disappear and fruit and vegetables could no longer be bought at small farms that couldn't afford the inspection fees. Produce stands could disappear. All of this would be in the name of food safety.(reminder: produce comes from foreign countries without any US food safety inspections)

Right to Sell Nutritious Food Directly from the Farm

You may want to contact your US Representative after reading about it to urge that there be exceptions for small farms. Contact is needed now BEFORE the bill gets passed so it can be modified. One link contact your US Rep is: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/officials/congress/
