For new growers (and others with a lot on their plate), remember
to check with your local colleagues, associations, and extension offices
about winter meetings in your area. In the Gulf states, growers can look
at the Deep South Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference in Mobile, Alabama
Dec. 8-10, 2004 (<www2.netdoor.com/~mfvga>) and the Southern SAWG
(Sustainable Ag. Working Group) conference in New Orleans Jan 20-23
(<http://www.ssawg.org/conference-.html>). Most of the meetings around the
country are relatively inexpensive, highly informative, and great
networking opportunities. They are really the only places to meet dozens
of growers and suppliers for a fresh crop farming/direct marketing business.
