Blueberries aren't bothered by other plants as neighbors, unless it's black walnuts. However, you may need to adjust your soil pH to a very acid state (4.5 - 5.2) to grow them successfully. Some sites in southern Illinois are naturally acidic and may need no adjustment. Be prepared to irrigate them. They love moisture. Berry size is influenced by moisture availability as is bush growth.
