Field day, September 15th, 8 to 11 AM.
Completing the Circle: Composting Food Wastes on Local Farms

(Allentown, PA) Lehigh County Office of Solid Waste is operating a one-year
demonstration project to show how food wastes from a grocery store can be
composted by local farmers. Over five tons per week of stale breads, fruit
peels and other preconsumer vegetative compostables are being collected by
Wegmans Grocery Store and delivered to two local farms. There they are
mixed with ground yard waste and composted.

The field day will show all aspects of the project. We will start at Four
Springs Farm between 7:30 and 8:00 AM (directions below). During the
morning we will visit both farms, and end up at Wegmans in Allentown.
Please register with the Office of Solid Waste, 610-782-3046.

Directions to Four Springs Farm:
Take I-78 to exit 13 (New Smithville). Go North on PA-863 1 mile. Go left
on to Bachelor Rd. Four Springs Farm is the first farm you come to.
