Onion Neck Rot, is there any hope?

We have found neck rot to be closely tied to thrips. I believe secondary
bacterial infection enters through thrip damage and 'drips' down to the
necks. We pull onions if the thrip damage is bad and the conditions are
moist. They wont store all that long anyway because the necks wont be dried
down and tight but at least they will be salable 'fresh'.
So my short answer is; control thrips.
