[Homestead] Playing Possum

Not good.  When I was young, we had a maiden aunt who lived with us and she would cook anything we killed.  She did refuse to cook skunk.  But she cooked everything else, turtle, snake, frogs, coon, rabbit, squirrel.  Even sparrows.  Anyway the opossum was not so good.

I can tell you were that possum has been. Anywhere that stinks. Inside a dead
cow or a dead pig or a big pile of garbage. I have to be careful how I put
this, but when I was a lad; possum was considered very desirable in the black
part of our community. I would trade to black men I knew, possums and coons for
rabbits. Where I was a lad, the black men prided themselves on their beagles
and their prowess at rabbit hunting. I went on a big rabbit hunt, a state away,
we took some black men and a bunch of their beagles. Beagles chase rabbits in
circles, closer, and closer, until, they are in gun sight. I have been in a
group of a half dozen men standing back to back so rabbits in all direction,
damn rabbit got chased right in amongst us, between our legs . Hah.
