[freetds] How to connect Microsoft Sql server from R studio using freeTDS instead of RODBC package

Hi,
I don't know Shiny however if I understood:
- you have a R application running inside this cloud;
- the application should use RODBC to connect to some SQL Server
database using ODBC.
Now I know ODBC. ODBC mainly use drivers (dynamic modules) to connect
to different database types. As you said that Shiny run on Linux you
need a driver for Linux that is able to connect to SQL Server, FreeTDS
is one of them! However the "SQL Server"/"FreeTDS" string after the
"Driver=" in the connection string is not just a simple string, it's a
reference to an installed driver. So you have to install the driver
and configure in the DM (Driver Manager, the ODBC library that RODBC
is linked to) installed in the Shiny cloud machine. Here we can't help
much unless you have some direct/standard access (like ssh) to this
machine.
About the connection. Where do the SQL Server is running? Inside the
cloud? On your machine? Is your machine connected and opened (firewall
speaking) to this Shiny cloud machine(s) ?
Are you trying to install FreeTDS also on your machine where you are
testing how your R application is running (I don't know R environment)
?
To install FreeTDS on Windows you can see
http://www.freetds.org/userguide/osissues.htm.
