OK, thank you for clarifying. Interesting idea they had there.

Okay... and, darn. Still not working.

freetds.conf:

[ec2test]
         host = ec2-174-129-135-45.compute-1.amazonaws.com
         port = 1433
         tds version = 8.0

PHP code:

$db = mssql_connect('ec2test', 'user', 'pass');

And result from the freetds log:

A few packets were sent, then this:

(dblib.c:7835):20017: "Unexpected EOF from the server"
(dblib.c:7856):"Unexpected EOF from the server", client returns 2
(INT_CANCEL)
(util.c:368):tdserror: client library returned TDS_INT_CANCEL(2)
(util.c:389):tdserror: returning TDS_INT_CANCEL(2)
(util.c:162):Changed query state from IDLE to DEAD
(net.c:1292):handshake failed
(util.c:334):tdserror(0xd4bef0, 0xe3ad60, 20002, 0)
(dblib.c:7782):dbperror(0xe3a3e0, 20002, 0)
(dblib.c:7835):20002: "Adaptive Server connection failed"
(dblib.c:7856):"Adaptive Server connection failed", client returns 2
(INT_CANCEL)
(util.c:368):tdserror: client library returned TDS_INT_CANCEL(2)
(util.c:389):tdserror: returning TDS_INT_CANCEL(2)

Is this a bit further along? What "tds version" should I be using for
SQL Server 2008?
