Not that I ever heard. I have never heard any talk that dvd manufacturers 
wanted to prevent people from shooting their own home movies, butning them to 
dvds and playing them in dvd players.

The idea given was more like it would prevent the making of knock off copies 
of "industry" dvds, etc.
