That the original pronounciation of this noun was "abd" is clear from:
A. declensions in MT Hebrew -- "abdi" etc.
B. from Arabic where this form is preserved to this day. Compare the PN "Abdallah".

This too is simply the typical double plural of M. segohlites, where the long vowel, in this case Qamatz under the L represented the last vowel of the first plural, to which the standard --IM was eventually added.
