It is possible to pronounce both simultaneously, as is done in certain 
African languages, and that is quite likely how the Greeks did it, at least 
during the Classical period.  It takes some practice for English speakers, 
but I can do it -- it drives my students nuts, so I make sure I do it all 
the time.
