I'm not one overly concerned about pronunciation, but wouldn't "zd" followed by a vowel be rather difficult to pronouce -- at least at the beginning of a word? Consider ZESTOS or an even more difficult combination ZBENNUMI.

Subject: [B-Greek] Correct pronunciation of Z

I began my study of Greek with Classical. Then moved to NT Greek. I was originally taught to pronounce Z as zd. But in NT greek studies, it often seems to be pronounced as dz. Did the pronunciation of Z change over time? Which is correct? I have never looked into the history of this and thought it could be easily answered by some on the list who have tremendous knowlegde of the history of the language.

Thank you and may God bless you.
