FRESH IN THE DELI, JULY 2007
July Featured Cheese…Feta

White, crumbly and rindless, Feta cheese is most often available as a square cake packed in brine. A classic Greek cheese traditionally made of sheep or goat milk; it ranges in texture from soft to semidry, and has a rich, tangy flavor. It is popular in green salads, crumbled on top of pizzas and blended with herbs for use as a spread.

Try serving feta cheese as an appetizer, cut into small bite size pieces and topped with a fresh, summery salsa made from lemon zest, chopped tomatoes, red onions and cucumbers and sprinkled with fresh dill.

From our kitchen to your belly!
Our friends at First Alternative Natural Foods Co-op in Corvallis, Oregon have shared two great recipes that their co-op member-owner's love that we'll be making for the first 2 weeks of July!

Baked Potato Salad
One of our favorite comfort foods made into a great tasting, picnic perfect potato salad. Redskin potatoes, sour cream, mayonnaise, buttermilk and crisp cooked bacon are combined to make this favorite salad unique.

Edamame Mint Salad
Fresh soybeans are shelled and blanched, then mixed together with meaty Roma tomatoes, cucumbers and garlic, all dressed up with olive oil, lemon juice and fresh chopped mint.
Save .75 per pound

Our very own! Salsa of the month: All Fruit Salsa, mildly spicy full of fruit such as peaches, mangos, strawberries…..

Independence Day/ Independents Week!
We close early on the 4th of july deli at 8:30, store at 9pm. But, we've got a lot of great stuff to make the picnic or cookout all it can be!

From the Meat department: Buddy’s Natural Leg Quarters family packs, Salmon on sale in nice big steak cuts!

Cheese trays for picnics, made & ready in the case!

Deli:  Baked Potato Salad, Mashed Taters, Firecracker Coleslaw plus lots of other sides to make your holiday complete!

While we all Celebrate our Country's Independence, Celebrate our local Independents too! (July 1-7)
Support local businesses all year long, but celebrate them July 1-7!

Celebrate Independents Week by participating in the Indie Challenge, a contest where customers collect receipts from locally owned businesses during Independents Week and send them to the Ausitin Independent Business Alliance (AIBA). The people who collect the most receipts from different locally owned businesses will win prizes given by AIBA businesses.

Coffee with the board!
Come visit with members of your board of directors on the patio July 7th from 10-Noon. This is a new way for the board to try and connect with members in an informal setting. It's your chance to drink some coffee and hobnob with the leaders of your co-op! Come on out and say hello! We're planning this for the first Saturday of each month!

New in the Bodycare Department!

Introducing the Moon Cup®, identical to The Keeper but made from medical-grade silicone, for all women, but especially for those with an allergy to latex rubber.
Simple to use, both The Moon Cup and The Keeper are innovative feminine hygiene products that are worn internally, freeing women from dependency on cumbersome, uncomfortable, expensive, paper-based products. Economical, efficient, comfortable, and environment-friendly, reusable menstrual cups are attractive alternatives to other feminine hygiene products. Made by a woman for women, The Keeper (natural gum rubber) and The Moon Cup (medical grade silicone) are both FDA-approved and the only menstrual cups made in America.

The Moon Cup is retailing for $25.99.

The next Member Appreciation Day is July 21st! Join us for a 10% discount off of all your purchases all day long. Enjoy samples from 12-4! This is a good day to get your friends to become owners, too!'

Charging it? How about using a Wheatsville credit card?
You can now sign up for the Wheatsville Great Rate VISA® card offered through the University Federal Credit Union.

Every time you use your UFCU Wheatsville VISA® card, whether it's at Wheatsville or any other store, a portion of the fees normally charged to the retailer will go back to your friendly neighborhood grocery co-op. The more you use your VISA® card, the more you contribute back to the growth of Wheatsville! Cool!

I like using mine all over town and getting great reactions from other local businesses when they see our awesome card!
