I'm trying write an article on female record/music collectors.
Unfortunately, I feel I need to answer whether or not girls even collect at
all... Then I'd like to answer, or ponder why there seem to be fewer female
collectors.

Check out this quote below from Simon Frith, a music writer that I had a lot
of respect for.

Ouch... I remember doing that interview with him and only later thinking "I should call him on that one..."

I know a number of women who are music nuts and have great music collections but I sometimes wonder how much of a subculture that is. When I go to the annual WFMU record fair, I always see a lot of women there.

I can't remember the exact figures but I seem to remember some British study that the average consumer there only buys a few CD's a year. That would seem to mean that OVERALL, most men and women aren't concerned with having a huge collection of music. Also, with the advent of music downloads, I'm sure that changes the equation too- having a lot of CD's isn't as hip as having a hard drive or player filled with MP3's (even then, I've heard of other studies that most people that have I-Pods don't come anywhere near to filling them up).

By the way, re Delta 5, thanks again to Tobi, Slim Moon and the whole KRS crew plus Erin Donovan for making that a reality. The band's been really happy with the end result too.

Best,
Jason
