If you started by copying and modifying the ISO initrd, then udevd and
friends are already on it, and all you had to do was run the commands
for it in the init script. Take a look at the smgl.init script, and
you'll see that it's actually quite simple (the udev-related commands
are down towards the bottom of that file).
