As you said we did indeed talk about this some months ago on the ML. The
issue
arose when I noticed that optional_depends accepted a space-delimited list of
spells in a single argument. It was a bug that was promptly fixed, although I
was hoping it could've been transformed into a feature. It really only worked
by accident; some things were broken, e.g. the space-delimited list was added
on a single line in /var/state/sorcery/depends.
